Asset searching and recovery: unravelling offshore structures
Capcon Argen’s research revealed an extensive web of deceit. It was clear
that over a period of several years, the Russian company had put considerable
effort into building a complex structure of trustee companies in the most discreet
tax havens, specifically to disguise ultimate ownership and conceal assets. These
companies operated in diverse fields and usually from false addresses.
As the tissue of lies unravelled, unwanted partners were uncovered in country
after country, from the Caribbean to many parts of Europe. The client realised
the extent of the Russian licensee’s duplicity and terminated the contract.
